OPENING FOR ASSISTANT PEOPLE’S COUNSEL


The Harford County Council is seeking an Assistant People’s Counsel. This is a contractual hourly position without benefits. This position represents the interests of the public in all matters and proceedings preliminary to, arising out of or affecting the zoning classification or reclassification of land in the county when the People’s Counsel either has a conflict or during periods of high caseload. Zoning hearings are conducted throughout the year, generally on Wednesday evenings. Candidates must have a Juris Doctorate degree from a duly-accredited law school, 2 to 3 years of litigation experience preferred, familiarity with the rules of evidence, and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively. State Prosecutor Vacancy

The State Prosecutor Selection and Disabilities Commission is currently seeking applicants for State Prosecutor.

The State Prosecutor may investigate certain criminal offenses on his/her own initiative, or at the request of the Governor, the Attorney General, the General Assembly, the State Ethics Commission, or a State’s Attorney. These include: 1) State election law violations; 2) State public ethics law violations; 3) State bribery law violations involving public officials or employees; 4) misconduct in office by public officials or employees; and 5) extortion, perjury, or obstruction of justice related to any of the above. The State Prosecutor is nominated by the Commission and appointed by the Governor for a term of six years and until a successor is appointed and qualifies.

The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of prosecutorial and/or criminal litigation experience, possess a demonstrated ability to lead complex investigations and manage an investigation team, substantial experience with pre-trial and trial litigation, strong written and oral advocacy skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and judgment. All candidates must be members in good standing with the Maryland Bar.

New Postponement Policy – District Court

A message from the Harford County District Court:

Beginning 8/1/19, all cases postponed in District Court in open court at the request of either party will have a new trial date and room selected on the record, before either party is excused.

Each attorney will need to have the ability to access his or her calendar to set the new date.

Position Opening

The Harford County Mental Health and Addictions Advisory Council (MHAAC), in partnership with Harford County Government and other community partners, is responsible for the appointment of MHAAC members, in accordance with Harford County Code, Chapter 9, Article VI, Sections 9-27 through 9-32. 

The Council is seeking a representative of the legal profession to serve on the Harford County MHAAC for an appointment from 7/1/19 through 6/30/22.  Meetings are typically held every 2 months, except during the summer. The Maryland Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) is seeking candidates for the position of Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). Eligible candidates must be a lawyer in good standing for at least five years as of December 31, 2018, licensed to practice law in Maryland and possess excellent writing, legal research, computer and time management skills. The OAH is based in Hunt Valley and ALJs are required to travel throughout the State. Starting salary is $99,549.
