The Maryland Office of People’s Counsel (MD OPC) is looking for an energetic, creative attorney with a strong interest in consumer advocacy to round out our team of talented and committed lawyers.


The Maryland Office of People’s Counsel (MD OPC), an independent State agency, is seeking applicants for an Assistant People’s Counsel position. MD OPC is a consumer protection agency that represents the interests of residential utility consumers in energy, telecommunications and other matters before the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC), federal agencies and the appellate courts. An Assistant People’s Counsel may represent the agency in a variety of regulatory matters, including rate cases, merger applications, service quality and reliability, consumer protection issues and rulemaking proceedings. OPC also investigates competitive suppliers of gas and electricity regarding their compliance with the State’s consumer protection laws and the Commission’s laws and regulations.


Qualifications: The candidate must have a minimum of three years of litigation experience, admission to the Maryland Bar, and excellent analytical, writing and oral advocacy skills. Consumer protection litigation experience is a plus. Background in or familiarity with utility regulation, economics, engineering, and accounting also will enhance the application. Admission to the Maryland Bar and valid driver’s license are required. The candidate must be able to travel, including evenings and weekends, as required on an occasional basis.

The State Prosecutor Selection and Disabilities Commission is currently seeking applicants for State Prosecutor.

The State Prosecutor may investigate certain criminal offenses on his/her own initiative, or at the request of the Governor, the Attorney General, the General Assembly, the State Ethics Commission, or a State’s Attorney. These include: 1) State election law violations; 2) State public ethics law violations; 3) State bribery law violations involving public officials or employees; 4) misconduct in office by public officials or employees; and 5) extortion, perjury, or obstruction of justice related to any of the above. The State Prosecutor is nominated by the Commission and appointed by the Governor for a term of six years and until a successor is appointed and qualifies.

The ideal candidate should have at least 10 years of prosecutorial and/or criminal litigation experience, possess a demonstrated ability to lead complex investigations and manage an investigation team, substantial experience with pre-trial and trial litigation, strong written and oral advocacy skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and judgment. All candidates must be members in good standing with the Maryland Bar.

A message from the Harford County District Court:

Beginning 8/1/19, all cases postponed in District Court in open court at the request of either party will have a new trial date and room selected on the record, before either party is excused.

The Harford County Mental Health and Addictions Advisory Council (MHAAC), in partnership with Harford County Government and other community partners, is responsible for the appointment of MHAAC members, in accordance with Harford County Code, Chapter 9, Article VI, Sections 9-27 through 9-32. 

The Council is seeking a representative of the legal profession to serve on the Harford County MHAAC for an appointment from 7/1/19 through 6/30/22.  Meetings are typically held every 2 months, except during the summer.
