Judicial Qualifications

If you would like more information about the application and/or selection process, please visit the Maryland Courts Judicial Selection web page.

PLEASE NOTE: Voting for Judicial Applicants

The Harford County Bar Association (HCBA) By-Laws, as amended March 22, 2016, provide the following at Article VI – Committees, section (e):

“Judicial Nominations Committee. This Committee shall review and evaluate the qualifications of all judicial applicants in accordance with the directives of the Executive Council and forward the report to the Judicial Nominating Commission as required.”

The former by-laws provided that only HCBA “qualified members” in good standing shall be permitted to vote on applicants for the judicial vacancy.  This status referred to members who were current on dues, who were also “voting” or “qualified” members.  This “voting” and “non-voting” designation is no longer contained within the by-laws.

The local HCBA Committee on Judicial Appointments is finalizing the new process for evaluating applicants for judicial appointment and more will be posted on the process very soon.
